How many packs of cigarettes are in a vape? Three methods
A Geek Bar Pulse X is 3 to 125 packs and an ELFBAR 600 is 0.13 to 3, depending on the method. The makers' specs, the sums, and why they disagree.
On the makers’ own specs, a Geek Bar Pulse X holds about 900 mg of nicotine and a 20 mg/ml ELFBAR 600 holds 40 mg. Converted to packs of cigarettes, that is 3 to 125 packs for the Pulse X and 0.13 to 3 for the ELFBAR 600, depending on the method. No method gives a measured dose.
This is an evergreen explainer: how many packs of cigarettes are in a vape changes only if a maker changes its spec. This desk read the Geek Bar Pulse X page and ELFBAR’s ELFBAR 600 page on 19 October 2026; everything below is arithmetic on those pages. Nobody here tested a device.
How much nicotine is in each device?
Volume times strength. Geek Bar lists 18 mL at 5% nicotine. The page prints only “5%”; read the usual way, as 50 mg/mL, that is 900 mg, as our Pulse X nicotine explainer sets out. ELFBAR lists 2 ml, up to 600 puffs, at 20, 10 or 0 mg/ml. At 20 mg/ml that is 40 mg.
How many packs of cigarettes are in a vape, method by method?
A pack is 20 cigarettes.
- Content. Benowitz and Henningfield wrote in Tobacco Control in 2013 that most manufactured cigarettes then contained 10 to 15 mg of nicotine, so 200 to 300 mg a pack.
- Intake. NIDA says the average smoker takes in 1 to 2 mg per cigarette, so 20 to 40 mg a pack.
- Puffs. NIDA says a typical smoker takes 10 puffs per cigarette, so 200 puffs a pack.
| Device, maker’s spec | Nicotine | Content basis | Intake basis (upper bound) | Puff basis |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pulse X, Regular, 25,000 puffs | 900 mg | 3 to 4.5 packs | 22.5 to 45 packs | 125 packs |
| Pulse X, Pulse, 15,000 puffs | 900 mg | 3 to 4.5 packs | 22.5 to 45 packs | 75 packs |
| ELFBAR 600, 20 mg/ml | 40 mg | 0.13 to 0.2 pack | 1 to 2 packs | 3 packs |
Arithmetic on the makers’ pages. Nominal content, not absorbed dose.
Why do the methods disagree so much?
Content compares a full tank with a full tobacco rod. Intake compares the tank with what a smoker absorbs, about 10% of the rod per Benowitz, and so assumes the vaper absorbs every milligram. No source this desk read gives that fraction for a vape, so the column is an upper bound.
The puff basis ignores nicotine and counts draws against the maker’s rating, which our review of puff-count claims examines; on high-capacity devices it gives the largest figures. The same ratings set how long a vape lasts.
Frequently asked questions
How many puffs of vape are equal to a cigarette?
No source we read gives a measured exchange rate. The shortcut uses NIDA’s figure that a typical smoker takes 10 puffs on a cigarette, so 10 vape puffs count as one cigarette. That matches puffs, not nicotine: a Pulse X puff and an ELFBAR 600 puff carry different amounts of nicotine.
How many cigarettes equals one vape device?
A 2 ml, 20 mg/ml ELFBAR 600 holds 40 mg, under one pack on cigarette content and one to two packs on nicotine absorbed. An 18 mL, 5% Geek Bar Pulse X holds about 900 mg, which is 3 to 4.5 packs on content and far more on the other two methods.
How many cigarettes are in a bottle of vape juice?
Multiply the bottle’s millilitres by its strength in mg/ml, then divide. A 10 ml bottle at 20 mg/ml, for example, holds 200 mg: at most one pack on the 200 to 300 mg content basis, or at most five to ten packs on the 20 to 40 mg intake basis, which assumes every milligram is absorbed.
Whichever column you pick, a disposable is a nicotine product, and nicotine is addictive. These devices are for adults of legal purchase age only, 21 and over in the US, and not for non-smokers or former smokers.
